Trainer Profile: Harry Fry

December 15th, 2015

Harry Fry (ex-assistant to Paul Nicholls for four years) is one of the new breed of up and coming National Hunt Trainers.

Since obtaining his licence in 2012 as Britain’s youngest jumps trainer, in a relatively short period Harry Fry’s reputation has grown.

From his training facilities located near Seaborough Dorset, this season his yard has saddled the winner of the Mitie Events & Leisure Novices' Hurdle at Ascot (American), the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle at Ascot (Rock On Ruby) and the Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham (Unowhatimeanharry).

Although he is relatively new to the ranks, Harry Fry trained horses have a reputation for performing best when raced on right handed tracks and in the first of our trainer statistical reports, not only did we confirm this observation, we also used the Proform System builder to profile all of Harry Fry’s runners since Oct 2012.

After crunching the numbers, the data revealed:

  • The optimal period for the stable (based on the number of runners) is January with a 74% better than expected performance (41% strike rate) compared to April where runners underperform by 13% (14% strike rate).

And

  • Horses aged 7 and above (33% strike rate) perform 39% above normal and so far have produced a profit to Betfair Starting Prices of £142.92 to a £1 stake (84.57% ROI).

The stats above are just a few of the emerging trends for the stable and in the document below we categorise the performance of Harry Fry’s trained horses by:

  • Starting Price Rank
  • Jockey
  • Course
  • Distance
  • Recent Finishing Position

Plus a lot more.
