One of the many features in the Proform Race Guides are our Pace Maps which show the individual running styles for each horse in the race as a graphic image.

Using the pace map one can easily visualise how the race will unfold and anticipate before the race starts, which horses are aided (or disadvantaged) by how the race will be run.

 

Cheltenham Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy (10^th March 2015)

Based on the running styles for each horse in the Champion Hurdle (detailed under columns H (held up), M (mid field), P (prominent) and L (led)), it was clear to see that Faugheen had a significant pace advantage over the other horses in the race and with no pace pressure anticipated, Faugheen’s jockey (Ruby Walsh), could run the race to suit Faugheen’s running style.

Our horse race stats also indicated that runners with a ‘led’ profile win 2.08 times more races than expected and therefore the pace bias over 2 miles on the hurdle course at Cheltenham aids front running horses. 

As you see from the post-race comments above, the race unfolded exactly as predicted by our racecard Pace Map.
